Thank you to Columbia University’s Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Columbia University’s Sigma Phi Epsilon generously awarded Denim Day NYC the 2019 Balanced Man Fellowship. The Balanced Man Fellowship is a grant given to a community service initiative on an annual basis. Sigma Phi Epsilon believes “it is important as a fraternity to raise awareness of sexual assault and we look forward to supporting Denim Day NYC this year by participating in the rally at City Hall here in New York City.”

We would like to extend our gratitude to Sigma Phi Epsilon and commend them for taking a strong stance against sexual assault by joining Denim Day’s movement. We plan to use the funds for this year’s Denim Day NYC rally, future campaigns, and future fundraising initiatives.

TAKE A STAND AGAINST SEXUAL ASSAULT & VIOLENCE

Denim Day NYC is a coalition of community organizations, elected officials, students, and volunteers united to promote awareness around the issue of sexual assault. Denim Day grew out of a case in which a rape conviction was overturned because the judge reasoned the victim’s tight jeans meant that she had to have helped her assailant remove them, implying consent. People were outraged all over the world and wearing jeans became an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes and myths surrounding sexual assault. Denim Day NYC started in 2010 with a collaborative of three agencies and has grown to more than 40 organizations uniting to promote awareness around the issue of sexual assault.
